Aims and Scope
IJF publishes credible research, reviews and scholarly discussion that advance pharmaceutical science, professional pharmacy practice and the safe, effective and equitable use of medicines.
Broad pharmacy coverage with a required pharmaceutical focusCore subject areas
Pharmaceutics and drug delivery
Preformulation, dosage-form design, excipients, biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, controlled and targeted delivery, nanomedicine, biomaterials, 3D printing and personalised dosage forms.
Industrial pharmacy
Pharmaceutical manufacturing, scale-up, process validation, technology transfer, quality by design, process analytical technology, stability, packaging and supply quality.
Pharmaceutical analysis
Analytical method development and validation, impurity and degradation profiling, bioanalysis, spectroscopy, chromatography, chemometrics and quality control.
Medicinal chemistry and discovery
Drug design, synthesis, structure-activity relationships, computational discovery, molecular modelling, screening, lead optimisation and pharmaceutical biotechnology.
Pharmacology and toxicology
Experimental and translational pharmacology, mechanisms of action, safety pharmacology, toxicology, drug interactions and dose-response research.
Pharmacognosy and natural products
Authentication, phytochemistry, standardisation, ethnopharmacology, biological evaluation and development of natural products with clear pharmaceutical relevance.
Clinical and hospital pharmacy
Pharmaceutical care, medication safety, therapeutics, antimicrobial stewardship, adherence, medication review, outcomes and interprofessional practice.
Community and social pharmacy
Public-health pharmacy, patient behaviour, access to medicines, education, health literacy, workforce, policy and social or administrative pharmacy.
Pharmacovigilance and epidemiology
Adverse drug reactions, signal detection, benefit-risk assessment, medication errors, real-world evidence, pharmacoepidemiology and risk minimisation.
Regulation and outcomes
Regulatory science, dossier and lifecycle science, pharmacoeconomics, health technology assessment, outcomes research and responsible pharmaceutical policy.
Emerging and interdisciplinary work
IJF considers pharmaceutical applications of artificial intelligence, digital health, modelling and simulation, omics, advanced therapeutics, biologics, biosimilars, vaccines, precision medicine, green pharmacy and sustainable manufacturing. Interdisciplinary manuscripts must make their pharmaceutical contribution explicit.
What IJF normally does not consider
- Work outside pharmacy or medicines research with no clear pharmaceutical rationale.
- Simple formulation or analytical exercises that lack adequate optimisation, validation, comparison or scientific advance.
- Uncontrolled claims for herbal products without authentication, standardisation and suitable controls.
- Case reports that lack consent, novelty or a clear educational message.
- Studies that divide one coherent dataset into minimally different papers.
- Manuscripts whose central conclusions are unsupported by the methods or data.
